Tecnologias: nem proibidas, nem obrigatórias. Por um uso consciente e humanizado
A convite do pediatra e neonatologista Cacá, escrevi sobre este assunto para seu blog. O texto foi publicado originalmente aqui.

Vivemos numa era em que as telas são aparatos cada vez mais pessoais e fazem parte das nossas vidas cada vez mais cedo. Não dá para ser contra as tecnologias, porque elas estão aí e fazem parte de nossas vidas; mas também não precisamos nos entregar aos delírios de consumo e nos fazermos reféns. Especialmente para lidar com as relações entre a infância e as tecnologias, enquanto mães e pais, precisamos exercer nosso papel de mediadores e guardiões destas crianças. Mas como?
No campo da educação (especialmente a educação formal escolar) é recorrente o discurso de que as tecnologias são inevitáveis e que vem adentrando os espaços educativos “naturalmente”, na medida em que as novas gerações (que seriam “nativos digitais”) estão estabelecidas nas escolas.
Mais do que o ideário sobre a inserção “natural” das tecnologias, paira no ar uma crença de que as tecnologias podem “salvar” a educação, aproximando a linguagem e os métodos educacionais do que seria um universo discursivo mais “próximo” das crianças e jovens, pelo fato de ser algo que traz, para o ambiente “chato e hostil” da educação algo “lúdico” e que “faz parte do universo infantil”.
Coloquei entre aspas nos dois primeiros parágrafos deste texto as expressões e ideias que – a meu ver – são passíveis de problematização. Mas é fato que este é o discurso comum para vários setores da sociedade que veem com muita naturalidade as tecnologias adentrando os espaços educacionais formais.
Fiz uma pesquisa e entre os achados dela, está o fato de, por exemplo, a mídia, as empresas, o poder público e a Universidade estão falando sobre as contribuições (positivas, sempre) que as tecnologias podem oferecer aos processos educacionais.
É comum vermos este discurso de “idolatria” das tecnologias em outros setores da sociedade. Na medicina, por exemplo, é muito comum ver uma espécie de endeusamento das tecnologias “que salvam vidas”. E, em nome das que salvam vidas, “tecnologiza-se” tudo.
De que tecnologia estamos falando?
Talvez seja importante a gente conversar sobre o que é tecnologia. São muitas as correntes científicas que buscam definir o que elas são. Mas aqui, para nós, e para esta conversa sobre as relações entre tecnologia e infância, talvez seja bacana pactuarmos que estamos falando especialmente das tecnologias de telas.
Porque sim, nossas crianças nasceram em um momento que algumas pessoas chamam de Era da Informação, em meio ao que outras chamam de Cultura digital ou de Cibercultura. São as tais crianças “nativas digitais” (não gosto muito deste termo, tá?). Se formos falar de qualquer tecnologia, estamos todos convivendo com elas desde a Idade Média, então, seria legal a gente combinar aqui que esta discussão específica é sobre as telas. 😉
É fato que hoje, vivemos num momento de exacerbação tecnológica, com a proliferação dos aparatos móveis e pessoais. Cada um tem um celular e alguns ainda têm um tablet e um computador pessoal. O consumo da tecnologia se individualizou. Além disso, ele se expandiu pelas diversas faixas etárias. E é cada dia mais precoce.

Mas qual seria a idade ideal para começar a consumir tecnologias? Existe isso?
Olha… eu li o texto que a Anne Rammi publicou por aqui e me senti bem contemplada pela leitura sensata que ela traz com base na experiência cotidiana de quem tem filhos e consegue promover um uso consciente das tecnologias.
Penso que nós (mães e pais) precisamos entender que estamos em um mundo povoado por estas tecnologias. Que nossos filhos – especialmente aqueles em idade escolar e que já tem contato com outras instâncias de socialização que se relacionam com as tecnologias – estão o tempo todo em contato com estes aparatos e telas. Não podemos tentar “salvá-los” deste contato. Então, talvez o modo mais bacana de olhar para isso seja reconhecendo nosso papel de mediação.
E esta mediação vai desde buscar entender qual a idade certa para eles terem aparelhos próprios (e aí, entra a decisão de cada família); e passa por estar sempre por perto para mediar conteúdos (assistir junto, problematizar, comentar sobre o que viram, não deixar entrar em contato com conteúdos não classificados para a idade). Passa também por entender qual o tempo ideal de exposição das crianças às telas.
E, passa, sobretudo, pelo que, para mim, é uma das principais questões em jogo quando a criança passa a consumir tecnologia (e os conteúdos que circulam pelas telas) sozinha: a segurança.
E para fazer esta mediação (seja do consumo dos aparatos, seja dos conteúdos) precisamos estar minimamente apropriados deste universo.
E como se apropriar para mediar?
Talvez o primeiro passo seja reconhecer a tecnologia em todas as suas dimensões. As telas são aparatos ‘concretos’, mas carregam consigo conteúdos (todo um universo simbólico) e modos de percepção (esquemas lógicos, por exemplo, que dependem de programas e softwares que usamos).
Para mediar, é preciso ter em mente que as potencialidades das tecnologias não são apenas negativas. Existem usos bacanas e possíveis da tecnologia, para melhorar processos em casa, para brincar e para estudar. Costumo dizer que precisamos olhar para o potencial humanizante das tecnologias.
Aqui em casa, por exemplo, evito telas ao máximo (o mais novo nem sabe o que é isso ainda, claro). Mas desde muito cedo, Miguel usa os celulares e telas para conversar com a família, que está longe, espalhada pelo Brasil. Desde muito pequeno, ele pede para fazer “Facetime” com a vovó e com os tios. Há como recriminar este uso da tela mesmo que seja por uma criança de 2 anos?
Precisamos de menos julgamentos. Precisamos que cada família se sinta confortável como mediadora da experiência de cada criança com as telas e seus conteúdos. Mas precisamos também que estas escolhas sejam feitas com consciência e informação.
Nesse sentido, e avançando no argumento de que, enquanto pais e mães, precisamos conhecer para mediar, devemos entender quais os possíveis riscos envolvidos no consumo de telas tecnológicas.
A pesquisa do Cetic.Br chamada TIC Kids online nos traz algumas informações preciosas nesse sentido.
Segundo este levantamento (que abrange as crianças e jovens de 9 a 17 anos), a maioria delas usa telas e internet “todos os dias ou quase todos os dias”, acessando especialmente do celular e de tablets e fazendo isso a partir de suas casas. Os principais usos são para “rede social, trabalho da escola, pesquisas e mensagens instantâneas”.
De posse desta informação, seria interessante pensarmos nos riscos que estes acessos podem envolver. E a pesquisa enumera três exemplos: (1) tratamento ofensivo; (2) contato com mensagens de ódio; e (3) exposição de informações pessoais. Pensando nos riscos, conseguimos pensar também nas principais medidas de segurança de que podemos lançar mão.
Claro que estas são questões para crianças mais velhas. Para crianças mais novas, penso que devemos fazer um uso mediado e consciente, na linha do que a Anne Rammi propõe em seu texto, ajudando-as a problematizar alguns conteúdos e evitando que estejam muito expostas a outros. Aqui em casa, por exemplo, eu costumo obedecer à classificação indicativa do Ministério da Justiça, evito televisão aberta (por conta da propaganda abusiva) e invisto em desenhos e musicais, tentando filtrar conteúdos mais violentos. Jogos são mais raros.
No caso de bebês e crianças mais novas, existem uma série de estudos que mostram que muita exposição às telas trazem consequências para o brincar (mais restrito), para a criatividade e para a construção de raciocínio destas crianças. Eu acredito que temos um vasto trabalho de conscientização e informação sobre acesso e uso de telas para que as escolhas de mediação sejam escolhas informadas.
O que eu acho importante é a gente entender que enquanto mães e pais, somos mediadores; que esta mediação deve ser consciente e informada e que cada família deve ter tranquilidade para decidir o que é melhor para suas crianças, ainda que pense igualmente que o Estado tem um papel fundamental na construção de políticas de informação e proteção à infância (este item rende um texto à parte sobre a ausência do Estado na regulamentação do setor da comunicação).
Acredito também que cada família tem direito à paz interior e a não ser julgada socialmente por oferecer telas a seus pequenos.
Vale lembrar que a tecnologia nem nos salva, nem nos condena. A chave são os usos que fazemos dela. Os usos são de cada um e cada uma. De cada coletivo. De cada família. De cada grupo, cada sociedade. Cada grupo conhece seu contexto e suas possibilidades e limitações. Avancemos nos apoiando e nos informando, sem julgamentos. E estas escolhas tendem a ser muito mais saudáveis para nós, para nossas crianças e para a sociedade.
